More pamphlet than book
- Book is very short and light on content. Less than 80 pages long, with lots of blank or mostly empty pages throughout - Poorly edited--there are typos and other mistakes. Feels like something put together by a PE teacher in 1990's. - Several things it asks you to do in the drills are not either explained well or not explained at all (e.g. pendulum dribble) - Promises a 21 day plan, but its a 7 day plan repeated 3 times. And two of the days are rest, and 1 is just a timed mile run. So that leaves 4 days with significant workouts, and those 4 workouts consist of the same 11 drills in the same order, with a different set of a few conditioning exercises at beginning. It is underwhelming and repetitive. Again, seems like the work of an uninspiring PE teacher. - Everything can be done on your own, which is nice. But this also means passing drills are simply throwing the ball against a wall which will not turn you into Nikola Jokic. - Besides being repetitive, workouts are sequenced poorly. One example: Only free throw drill is shooting 25 free throws in a row. Why not break up free throws into sets of five in between other drills, giving you more chance to practice making these shots when tired? Overall, this is not a good book and I don't recommend it. I give it two stars because if you do follow the program in this book, you may well be a better basketball player 21 days later as it will have you doing a lot of dribbling, shooting and running drills for 15 days. But it will be repetitive. And you could probably get a lot more benefit from following a better regime than this one.
How to improve your basketball skills in 21 day? I think so!
Back when I was playing high school basketball, my friend and I were obsessed with dunking the ball. It consumed every moment of our existence, and we did everything we could to increase our vertical jump. It was a bit one-sided, because we should have spent time on improving other skills as well. I recently bought this book about basketball skills and how to improve them to share with my son. He is walking down the same path his father did, becoming obsessed with one aspect of the game rather than trying to become a well-rounded player. I hope to have this book show him the path to take. After reading this book I am impressed with the amount of good information in it. It talks about so many things related to to basketball and the skills a player needs to work on. In addition to basketball skills, the book also delves into exercise routines and ways to increase all aspects of a player's game. I heartily recommend this book. The links to videos on YouTube that help to illustrate topics of discussion are a nice touch. Michael Jordan is mentioned a lot in this book, but if I had to hear about one player a lot, he would be my choice. I hope that my son eventually "sees the light" and realizes that dunking a basketball is not the be-all end-all when it comes to basketball. This book may help him see that and work on the other aspects of his basketball game.
Highly recommended for basketball skills, great value.
How to be better at basketball in 21 days is not your average sports training book. It is all-inclusive with modules of drills and exercises and stories of inspiration from world-class players. The author also makes sure to emphasize the importance mental preparation during these drills with a whole section just on that. The diagrams are very helpful for me as a visual learner and form a key part of the training found in this book. I have never been that good a player, so I picked out this book to get some hints and tricks. I highly recommend this, and look forward to trying some of these new basketball skills (like the jab fake, rip through drive) out the next time I’m at the gym. It is hard to find a better value than what is in this book whether you are a beginner like me or want to be a professional basketball player.
The Coaching That I Wish I Had in High School
I am joining a city recreation department men’s basketball league this fall. I haven’t played competitive basketball since high school (a very long time ). I was looking for some sort of structured program to help me get back into playing shape. I came across this book and thought it was pretty inexpensive and worth a try. The book was much better than expected. The author not only provides detailed written descriptions of fundamentals and techniques there are also links to demonstration videos which reinforces the information. There are also good suggestions on mental preparation for competition which will be helpful in your life outside of sports as well. The thing that I like best about the book is 21 day training program. The program lays out different drills and exercises for each day. I think this would be a great work out for any athlete, regardless of their sport, who wants to improve their strength, quickness, conditioning, hand-eye coordination, etc...
BIRTHDAY GIFT
Gave this book to my nephew for his 10th birthday. He loves playing basketball, and has told me that reading this book has helped him improve his basketball skills. He thanked me for giving it to him, and said he's so glad I thought to buy it for him.
Clear and direct
A book aimed to basketball players, especially suitable for the youngest, who wish to acquire good habits to improve not only in skills but also in attitudes. Easy and concise reading. With examples of the best professional players. Fully recommended for players and even coaches.
A Basketball Bible!
I must admit that this book “How to Be Better At Basketball in 21 Days” is very well organised and detailed guide for anyone who is interested in basketball and want to improve their game. The book will teach you a lot of things. From how to get in shape and control your focus to bettering your shooting and defensive skills. The 21-day program is a great chapter to read. Very detailed plan that will help you develop and improve your speed, strength, balance and overall basketball skills. You will also find a lot of pictures and diagrams that really help in the process of learning. But what impressed me the most was the concepts of visualization and mental attitude. I believe that the key quality a person needs for success in life, and on the basketball court, is a proper mental attitude . In basketball and in any other sport performace is vital. The conditioning and mental instructions in this book are both well worth the price. I have been playing basketball for high school and university team and I have never been lucky to get this kind of information, no time was given to the mental side of the game which in reality is very important. So I think a high school player who is really serious about developing their game would get a lot out of this book.
Solid advice
As someone who grew up around competitive basketball and has been away from the game for a while, this book helped me get my children started. This book isn’t comprehensive but it is solid and well put together.
Not a Great Read
So this book is not thorough at all. It touches on the basics and expects the reader understands basketball. Since I have played my whole life, I had done most of these drills and I understand it. If you are new to the sport then do not buy this, waste of money.
A good book to help you take your game to the next level.
